"…Pirates are real?" She did… look like a pirate, he had to admit. Although, a woman pirate. He'd hardly ever seen a woman pirate on TV. Maybe Ellie was the most pirate-looking woman-pirate ever.

He sort of… jolts forward a touch with the force of her patting, clearly being thrown off balance as he hadn't expected it, but… he still seems gloomy. If she could see his face, he'd be giving her the most sad, pathetic eyes ever.

"Ma'am… it was an a-accident what I did, but… there was so much blood and--." He whines audibly, before shaking his head, pulling himself up, and whatever he'd been about to say was just… gone.

"It… probably wasn't as bad as your dastardly pirate deeds, you're right!"

Damn, okay, that's crazy. He even whines like a dog? She gives him another hearty pat on the shoulder, imaging the pathetic, sad eyes behind the mask without needing to see them.

"Heyyy, Fido, chin up. I mean, I killed someone! On purpose! You know, hashtag just pirate girly things. So you'll probably just get Hell-parole and they'll ship you up to the pearly gates after you do some community service."

Crazy indeed, he's incredibly representative of the persona, huh?

"Well, I… I hope so!" For a moment, he felt bile in the back of his throat as he thought about the concept. The concept of being forgiven for what he'd done. It was… a disturbing thought, to him.

Seemingly desperate not to talk more about the topic, he looks over at her- in the kind of deliberately looking away manner of an awkward teen.

"So… what's it like bein' a pirate? Ya must like sailin', right?"

He bounces back so fast. Maybe she was right about him being a serial murderer. She really has no idea what to make of this dog boy.

"Mhm. Me and my crew would sail all around the world. It was pretty cool while it lasted, but, welp! Got caught. Now I'm here and they're..."

She scowls, face dropping for the first time.

"Elsewhere."

"D'ya know where they are?" He asks, fully earnestly. "That sounds… like it really sucks, ta be suddenly missin' ya entire crew."

He fully, genuinely believes she's a pirate, now.

A moment later, he adds,

"D'they know where you are?"

She gives a short laugh.

"Hah! Yeah, sure do. Prison! The Americans are, at least. And if I don't fuckin' know where I am, they sure as hell don't."

"Aw. That sucks!" Bow-Wow copies her earlier patting of him by returning it with a pat on her arm. Very gentle. "I'm sorry, ma'am, I hope ya find your crew when ya get outta here! And then… y'all can break out of prison together!"

She retaliates by putting her hand on his head and ruffling his hair aggressively, like a real dog. It's annoying her how he's way too cheery about this. Yeah, definitely a serial murderer.

"Not that easy, kiddo!"

Luckily for Ellie, he doesn't mind his head being petted at all. If she can put up with the slight grease-film hotdog water smelling hair.

"Well, I ain't ever been ta prison before ma'am, I dunno how easy it is ta get out!" He pouts, "But I think a cool pirate like you could do it!"

If she puts her hands on someone's head, that's just what she gets if its greasy. She takes her hand back and crosses her arms. He might be in prison right now… but she doesn't want to explain that.

She rolls her neck around. No. She can't do fucking shit about it and that's what pisses her off so bad. But the dog boy seems sweet. Maybe he's just traumatized or something. It probably would have fucked her up at 18 to see some people die.

"Thanks… Bow-wow. Man, they really call the mascot Bow-wow or is that just your nickname?"

"That's the mascot name and my nickname!" Bow-Wow replied, admittedly a little glad for the fact that she's not going to ask him any probing questions about why he was here in the first place.

He knew far too well that this was prison.

Ellie might push people's buttons, but when a teenager starts to go 'oh god there was so much blood' you just gotta let them be.

"You got a name besides Bow-wow? You're off the clock, kiddo. You can break character a little. Hey, they don't make you dress up at the hot dog place too, do they?"

"I do! I don't really like tellin' people in case they, like, know me or somethin'?" He doesn't think his name would have hit the news yet, but… what if it had! The horror!

He's quiet for a moment, then looks back up, "I just feel more comfortable that this is how people see me, y'know?" He tilts his head after speaking.

"They don't make me dress up!" He laughs- the sheer idea of them making him dress up was so absurd-! "I do it by choice!" Oh. "I even wear the full suit sometimes. But- I washed it!"

Ellie Carter

She reaches forward to ruffle his hair again.

"Aw! Ain't you cute? I missed you in your little fursuit? Hey, I got furry friends. It's cool that you wanna be a dog or whatever. Okay, I won't ask for your human name or whatever. I get it, I'm used to usernames. I think I got more friends with fake names than real ones at this point."

Bow-wow

"…Fursuit…? Furry…?" Bow-Wow looks thoroughly confused.

"What's a furry? Is it… like a mascot?" Oh no. Bow-Wow no. Sweet summer child. "I don't want to be a dog, I just feel more… comfortable this way!"

Wow, he really is a furry. That's basically Ellie's understanding of furries, which is completely formed by a small handful of online friends who delight in explaining it badly to this older woman.

"Awww, sweetie, I got some pals who would've had a field day with you. I feel like we'd better keep searchin' this place, but I'll explain more later, 'kay?"
