Bow-wow
When you touch the cold metal, everything fades to black for just a second. When your vision returns, the room becomes more populated with cardboard boxes that substitute furniture and things stop floating. However, everybody has disappeared. They didn't go anywhere - in fact, they can't see themselves while this plays out either!
Your body moves against your will, the sound of the door closing behind you as you step forward. You sluggishly dump a handful of tip change into a plastic container on the counter that's already half-full with coins.
Your gaze turns to Andrew preparing a small amount of food into containers on the other side of the kitchenette. Wait, no, it's not, but uncannily easy to think it's him. Even though the man in front of you is clearly much younger than him, the same features stand out. His glasses are different - a quirkier wire frame. When he speaks, it becomes obvious this is a different person, his voice a bit higher and more energetic than Andrew's. "Hah! Another rough night?"
"Yeah..." Andrew's voice comes out of your mouth, exhausted and drawling. You two high-five in solidarity before you slowly faceplant into one of the futons. Your vision goes to black, you return to the claustrobic nonsense once more, and everyone has reappeared.
